A hen group staying in Hackney and one staying in Chiswick might as well be in different cities on a Saturday afternoon, and moving fifteen people across town for a 90-minute class eats the day. So the class does the travelling: a male life model comes to wherever you’re staying, poses for the group, then turns butler and pours the drinks.

Knocked-through lounges, glass walls and rooms above pubs
Outside the centre, plenty of group rentals are Victorian terraces in places like Hackney, Brixton, Peckham and Walthamstow. The usual layout is two reception rooms knocked into one, which suits a drawing class: the model stands where the rooms meet and the group sits down both sides. The front bay faces the pavement at about head height, so close the shutters or curtains before he starts. The room has to be out of public view.
Newer blocks around Nine Elms, Canary Wharf and Wembley Park have the opposite problem, with plenty of floor and glass walls looking straight at the neighbours. Blinds down, lamps on. A hired function room works too (many London pubs have one upstairs), provided the door shuts and he has somewhere separate to change. Bring books or trays to lean on, because drawing boards aren’t supplied.

The class travels all over London. Islington, Hackney, Brixton, Peckham, Hammersmith, Chiswick, Walthamstow, Wembley and Bromley are all covered.

Once the pencils are down
Finish by early evening and you’re a Tube or bus ride from Soho, Covent Garden, Dalston or Brixton, depending on which side of town you’ve ended up. For £25 you can add a bottle of bubbly and chocolates to the booking. Book the London cocktail class for the same weekend and the multi-activity discount takes £25 off.

London Life Drawing: Quick Answers
Our living room is long and thin, two rooms knocked into one. How should we set it up?
Put the model in the middle, where the two rooms join, and seat everyone along the walls on either side. Move the coffee table out so he has clear floor to pose on.
Can we hold it in a function room above a pub?
Yes, he travels to function rooms. You book and pay for the room yourselves, and it needs to be private, with the door closed to the rest of the pub and a separate space for him to change.
What happens if there’s a Tube strike or the traffic is bad that day?
The model checks in with our office that morning and rings you when he’s 5 to 10 minutes away. Leave a spare hour after your planned finish in case he’s held up. You still get the full 1.5 hours, or the full 2 hours if that’s what you booked.
