Book a short-let in the Jewellery Quarter or Digbeth and there’s a fair chance of brick walls, iron columns and one very large open room. That’s about as close to an artist’s studio as a hen weekend gets, so it would be a shame not to draw someone in it.

What's included
- The class is 90 minutes, or two hours for £50 more.
- The model travels to you. He’s a Butler in the Buff as well as a model, and he runs the session himself with no separate tutor, so beginners are fine.
- The first 45 minutes are for drawing. He takes up three or four poses, nude unless you’ve asked for partly clothed.
- The second 45 minutes are butler service, in butler attire. He serves the drinks, runs party games, chooses the drawing he likes best and lines up for photos.
- He supplies the A4 paper, pencils, rubbers and sharpeners, with enough for 20 people.
- Prices begin at £15 per person, which assumes no more than 20 of you. Reserving a date is free.
Lofts, workshops and suburban semis
Open-plan conversions in the Jewellery Quarter and Digbeth have the floor space sorted. What they often lack is a door: he has to have somewhere separate to get changed, so check there’s a bedroom you can give him. Old industrial windows are big and tend to face a street or a courtyard of other flats, and the session must be out of public view, so make sure the blinds work.
Family houses further out in Kings Heath, Bournville or Erdington are the reverse, with plenty of doors and smaller rooms. Use the lounge or a kitchen-diner, shift the table to one side and seat people round the edge. Guests will want a book or tray each, as nothing to lean on comes with the materials.
From the Black Country to Coleshill

Fitting it round Broad Street and Digbeth
Birmingham is where friends from the north and the south meet halfway, so the first afternoon is often spent waiting for everyone to turn up. A class at four or five breaks the ice and still gets you out to Broad Street, the Arcadian or the bars around Digbeth by evening. The Birmingham cocktail class (two hours, from £35 per person, minimum 10) can go on the same booking, and the multi-activity discount then applies.

Our Jewellery Quarter apartment is one big open-plan room. Where does the model get changed?
He needs a room of his own for that, and a bedroom with a door is enough. If the flat is a studio with no separate room at all, tell us when you book.
Friends are coming from several cities and the numbers keep changing. When do you need a final count?
You can change numbers up to 14 days before the date. After that the number can’t drop, though you can email to ask about adding someone.
We want a December Saturday while the Frankfurt Christmas Market is on. How early should we reserve?
As soon as you know the date. Holding it costs nothing and no payment is taken that day, and you can settle the exact numbers later.
