Hen Party Life Drawing Edinburgh

Edinburgh sits far enough north that the light sets the rules. In June it’s still bright at ten at night; in December it’s dark by four. For a hen party life drawing class that mostly affects when you’d want to start, because the class itself happens indoors, in your flat, with a male model posing in the middle of the room.

Step by step

  1. The model, one of our Butlers in the Buff, arrives and gives out the materials: pencils, A4 sheets, rubbers and sharpeners, enough for 20.
  2. Drawing takes up the first 45 minutes. He strikes three or four poses and guides the group himself. There’s no tutor, and nobody minds if you can’t draw.
  3. By default the poses are nude. Partly clothed is available if you request it.
  4. He then changes into butler attire and spends 45 minutes on butler service. He serves drinks, hosts games, announces his favourite drawing and joins the group for photos.

Prices are from £15 per person, calculated for up to 20 guests.

Drawing rooms, shutters and box rooms

New Town and West End flats were built with a drawing room, which is handy. These are big, high-ceilinged rooms at the front of the building, with tall sash windows that face the flats across the street. Many still have their original wooden shutters, and closing them deals with the requirement that the session is out of public view.

Tenement flats in Marchmont, Bruntsfield and Stockbridge are smaller, but the living room generally seats a group if he poses by the window with the curtains drawn and people fan out from the sofa. He’ll need a room to change in (a bedroom or box room will do). A dining table is worth carrying through: nothing is supplied to lean on, so otherwise it’s books and trays.

Edinburgh, the Lothians, Fife and Stirling

The class is mobile, so it goes wherever in and around Edinburgh you’re staying. Corstorphine, Cramond, Currie, Balerno, Loanhead, Bonnyrigg, Roslin, Prestonpans and Tranent are all fine.

North Berwick, Stirling and St Andrews work too. The instant quote shows the price once you enter the postcode.

Timing it around the light

In summer a late-afternoon class still leaves hours of daylight for George Street, the Grassmarket or the bars along the Shore in Leith. In winter, start earlier and catch what daylight there is, or accept the lamps. An Edinburgh cocktail class on the same booking brings the two-activity discount of £25.

Edinburgh Life Drawing: Quick Answers

It’s dark by four in December. Will there be enough light to draw?

Yes, with the lights on. Pencil sketching doesn’t need daylight, so switch on the main light and put a lamp near where he’s posing.

In June it stays light until ten. Can we make the session longer?

The standard class is 90 minutes. Two hours is bookable instead for a further £50. That turns it into an hour of drawing followed by an hour of butler service.

Our Marchmont flat has a box room. Is that enough for him to change in?

Yes. He only needs a private room for changing, separate from the one you’re drawing in, and a box room or bedroom does the job.
