Much of the centre is Georgian terraces and crescents in the same pale stone, and plenty of those townhouses are let whole to groups. A first-floor room with tall sash windows and a high ceiling is hard to beat as a place to draw.

In short
One male model comes to you for an hour and a half, and you can book two hours instead for an extra £50. The first 45 minutes are nude poses, three or four in all, and with no separate tutor he talks the group through it himself. Nobody needs to have held a pencil since school. Then he swaps into butler attire for 45 minutes of butler service: topping up glasses, running party games, picking a favourite drawing and joining the group photos.
Paper (A4), pencils, sharpeners and rubbers arrive with him, enough for 20 people. Bring hardbacks or trays to lean on. It’s priced from £15 per person for up to 20, and a bigger party can be quoted on request, with extra materials at £5 a head.
Georgian townhouses: stairs, sashes and shutters
Group lets in Bath are often whole townhouses near the Circus, Great Pulteney Street and up Lansdown. They are tall and thin: four or five floors including a basement, a room or two per floor, and a lot of stairs. Hold the class in the first-floor drawing room if the house has one. It’s the largest room, and a model up there is harder to see from the pavement than one at street level.
Harder is not the same as hidden. Terraces face each other across the street, so the shutters or curtains on that side stay closed while he poses. Decide in advance which bedroom he changes in, bearing in mind it may be two flights up.

Spa first, pencils second
A common Bath hen day is Thermae Bath Spa in the daytime and dinner out at night. The class fits between the two: back to the house, drawing and drinks, then out to George Street or Milsom Street. Allow an hour’s slack before the restaurant in case he’s running behind.
For the bride, £20 adds a rose and a box of luxury chocolates. If the group likes the arty side, sip and paint is a separate activity, and two booked together bring £25 off.

Bath Life Drawing: Quick Answers
The townhouse is on five floors. Which room should we use?
The biggest one where you can clear the floor, which in a Georgian house is usually the first-floor drawing room. He also needs a separate room to change in, so choose a bedroom nearby if you can.
We’re coming during the Christmas Market. Does that affect the booking?
The centre is very busy on market weekends, from late November into December, so travel is slower. Leave your phone on and allow an hour after the planned end time. You’ll still receive the full session.
The owner of our let doesn’t allow events. What else can we do?
He can come to a hotel or a hired function room instead, provided it’s private. We can also help with venue hire if you need somewhere.
