Hen Party Edinburgh – 10 Fabulous Things to do in the capital of Scotland

24 Jan 2014

003-Edinburgh-Ladies-lunch-party-ideas_opt_optThe perfect place to start is with a couple hours of complete Hen happiness, brought to you by Butlers in the Buff. Why wait until the end of the night to bring in a fabulous male bod? Book a Butler in the Buff or two to serve champagne and canapés in your hotel suite, apartment or home before your Hen Party gets underway with the evenings plans. Gorgeous and articulate, your Butler in the Buff will answer the door, serve drinks, help host party games and even clear up afterwards. All while only wearing a little apron, collar, cuffs and bowtie. He’ll get everyone giggling and mixing together-the perfect icebreaker!

Edinburgh Hen Party Idea #2 Frilly Knickers

knickers hen part ideas edinburghYou may instantly think of Can Can Shows and we’re sure Edinburgh has some fine shows (and what a great hen night idea!) but this is a more hands on activity. Make your own gorgeous 1950 style Frilly Knickers with the lovely Reese and Brigitte at ‘Materialise’ in Edinburgh.  An arty Edinburgh hen party idea. Your group will be given the tuition and the tools to create amazing Frilly knickers. Or if knickers aren’t your thing why not do a workshop to make Fascinators or clutch bags for the big day.  Materialise is located in the Old Town of Edinburgh, off the West Port and just minutes from Edinburgh College of Art. Classes include all materials and of course you get to take your fabulous creations home with you. Why not wear them on the hen night out that follows or save them for the bride-to-be’s wedding itself.   Making Frilly knickers is a fabulous way to spend either the Saturday afternoon of the hen weekend, or a low key Hen night with the girls. Surprise the Hen Party afterwards with a Butler in the Buff in your hotel suite or apartment to round off the day and start the hen evening with a favourite cocktail or two!  Materialise is on 28 Lady Lawson Street Edinburgh, EH3 9DS

Edinburgh Hen Party Idea #3 Edinburgh Dungeon Walk

This can be a daytime activity that’s a perfect transition between breakfast and a shopping or spa afternoon. Or make it a little spookier by doing the guided walk through some ofEdinburgh’s most haunted dungeons at night.  Wilder groups can dress bride-to-be with the usual embarrassing penis garb and walk through Edinburgh’s old town in full hen party disarray. Try getting the hottest guys you can find en route to sign your bride-to-be. A fun, fresh take on the challenge games normally reserved for a pub crawl-why not set up a treasure hunt through the streets of Edinburgh? Make it as risqué as your group wishes. Guaranteed there will be a lot of hooting, hollering, wolf-whistling and treating men like meat but it will be a memorable highlight! The Edinburgh Dungeon: 31 Market Street, Edinburgh EH1 1DF

Edinburgh Hen Party Idea #4 Manicure/Pedicure/Spa/Massage

You can’t really go through a girls’ weekend in Edinburgh without a manicure or pedicure but make sure you plan this strategically in the day. Don’t get a pedicure and then go pole dancing or a manicure then to a pottery or cooking class! This is definitely a post-lunch downtime activity, a chance to chat, catch up and anticipate the upcoming evening adventures. We love Edinburgh’s One Spa in the centre of Edinburgh. They’ve got a sumptuous Thermal Spa lounge to relax in while you wait for your appointment and the atmosphere is so relaxing. Take time out of your hectic Edinburgh hen weekend to experience a series of treatments and rituals designed to restore balance and purify the body.

Edinburgh Hen Party Idea #5 Shopping with a Butler Guide!

This idea is perfect for the out of town Hen Party in Edinburgh! Your guide, a gorgeous Butler in the Buff (fully clothed this time!) will navigate the shops of famous George Street for your group. Enjoy VIP treatment as your gorgeous shopping assistant meets you in your hotel, hails your taxi, carries your purchases, opens doors; even take your orders for lunch or a cheeky afternoon cocktail!

Edinburgh Hen Party Idea #6 Go for a Dip

After pounding the pavements of Edinburgh everyone will be ready to recharge and refuel for the evening. A fun and communal way to feast is with fondue! Petit Paris is renowned for their fondues evenings, fabulous French food, wines and cheese plates. This place is only small so book in early to fit your group in and be sure to enjoy a fabulous bottle of wine with your meal. The warm goats’ cheese with olive tapenade and fresh basil in a filo pastry is not to be missed! This is the best way to treat a French wine loving Hen Party! 38-40 Grassmarket, Edinburgh, Midlothian EH1 2JU

Edinburgh Hen Party Idea #7 Dinner and a Show

Edinburgh has an extensive selection of theatres from Festive Theatre to Kings Theatre where you can see the best opera and ballet to lots of quirky little theatre on side streets throughout the city.  Edinburgh’s Playhouse Theatre is a great theatre with a great selection of shows throughout the year.  With group bookings and meal packages this is a great choice for a civilised hen party.

Edinburgh Hen Party Idea #8 Cocktails to die for

Ready to up the ante for a true edgy Edinburgh experience? Look no further than Tigerlily on George Street ‘an Edinburgh bar like no other’ due to their fabulous cocktails, food and boutique accommodation. Tigerlily is a favourite place to see and be seen amongst those in the know in Scotland’s capital city.  Against a backdrop of shimmering mirrors and dazzling chandeliers, hen party guests can choose from the champagne bar or the black bar; a fitting blend of elegance and opulence befitting of George Street’s illustrious history.

A Scarletta or a Southside?  Tigerlily’s mixologists have assembled an exhaustive list of classics and modern twists for your libation.  If the cocktails your Butlers in the Buff stirred up at the start of the evening had your taste bud buzzing, this is definitely the place for your Edinburgh hen party to head to. Their restaurant is amazing too so you could spend all evening there the bar is open until 1am! 125 George St, Edinburgh, Midlothian EH2 4JN

Edinburgh Hen Party Idea #9 The Club

Every hen party needs to dance the night away and if that’s your idea of hen party heaven then stay on Edinburgh’s George Street and take your pick from a variety of late bars with dance floors and clubs; Lulu Bar, Opal Lounge, Shanghai club.  Call ahead and try to get your hen party guest list.

If your hen party fancies camping it up why not head to CC’s Blooms Edinburgh premiere gay bar.  CC’s has been transformed into a ‘chameleon bar’ – a stylish bar during the day whilst still having the club feel at night.  The club itself has been stripped back to basics. And is ideal for a hen party not wanting to feel like they are in a meat market. 23-24 Greenside Ln, Old Town, Edinburgh EH1 3AA

The VooDoo rooms

The Voodoo Rooms is a club, restaurant, cocktail bar and gig venue in the old upstairs of West Register Street’s Cafe Royal. With the feel of a plush diner, the interior is tastefully dominated by black and gold decor. For the discerning music fan, there’s live soul, jazz, folk, indie rock and hip-hop on the menu in the 200 capacity main hall. Recent highlights have included roof raising sets from Aesop Rock and the late Guru’s Jazzmatazz. The Rooms are also home to regular gig-in-a-club-night Limbo, which has taken solid steps to unite Edinburgh’s eclectic music scene.
19a West Register Street, 0131-556 7060, thevoodoorooms.com. Open Mon-Thurs 4pm-1am; Fri-Sun 12pm-1am
